Parkland Encourages Kids To Live Healthy
KRLD -- The message is simple: eating right and exercising can be fun.
It's all part of Camp CHAMPS -- Choosing Healthy Activities, Meals and Positive Self-esteem at Parkland Hospital.
The annual free event gives campers and their parents a chance to take classes with professionals through Parkland Health and Hospital System.
"We have doctors, social workers, educators, the dietitians, that provide all this information,"says Ana Wolf-Carrizo, a Registered Dietitian with Parkland.
She says participants will learn more about preventing obesity and other chronic diseases, as well as how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The camp is available to all children 7-to-16 years old. There are five dates and locations with the first camp starting June 15.
* June 15 - 19 at Gospel Lighthouse Church, 5525 W. Illinois Ave., Dallas, 75211
* June 29 - July 2 at Santa Clara Regional Community Center, 321 Calumet Ave., Dallas, 75211
* July 6 - 9 at Tony Shotwell Life Center, 2750 Graham St., Grand Prairie, 75050
* July 13 - 16 Voice of Hope, 4120 Gentry Drive, Dallas, 75212
