DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A photo of a Dallas police cruiser parked in a handicap zone is making the rounds on social media; upsetting most people who see it.
"It just is very offensive to those of us that have disabilities," said Charlotte Stewart, who's disabled. She needs extra space to unload her scooter and walker when she parks.
The patrol car is shown without emergency lights flashing parked on the handicapped loading zone outside an uptown strip mall.
"I can't believe that there was not another spot that the officer could have used," said Stewart.
The police department provided documents stating the officer was responding to a disturbance inside Up In Smoke, a cigar store where a homeless man refused to leave Friday.
But a spokesperson for the department told CBS11 News it was a "very poor decision". Supervisors are considering whether to take disciplinary action against the officer involved.
But head of the Dallas Police Association, Ron Pinkston insisted the officer didn't do anything wrong.
"The officer answered a priority call we are taught to do it as safely as possible to get to the call and that's what he did," said Pinkston.
The minimum fine for parking in a handicapped loading zone is $290.
Employees at Up In Smoke declined to comment.
