Old Nessie Beheaded At Arlington Park
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Children at Allan Saxe Park in southwest Arlington were very sad to see that some vandal damaged a favorite playground attraction. Kids love to climb on the plastic Old Nessie sea serpent which appears to be swimming through the park grounds. The play sculpture is made up of three parts -- a head, a body and a tail.
The cartoon head of Old Nessie is the highlight of the piece. But someone came along last week and lopped off the creature's noggin. Investigators believe that the smiling face is now decorating someone's garage or bedroom.
Sadly, there are no surveillance cameras facing that part of the park, so investigators do not know who would do such a thing. However, police are hoping that somebody out there does have information about the case, and can offer tips leading to the Nessie vandal. Anyone who may be able to help track down the suspect is urged to contact the Arlington Police Department.
Meanwhile, the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department said that it will cost about $5,000 to restore Old Nessie's kid-friendly grin.
