Officials Break Ground On New Grapevine Road Project

GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - City officials in Grapevine on Tuesday broke ground on a project that is intended to make highways safer. The new $61 million road construction project will add new direct connectors between Highway 114, Highway 121 and Highway 360. There will also be a new exit for William D. Tate Avenue.
The new lanes are expected to minimize weaving and reduce congestion in this busy area of Grapevine.
Work on this project actually began last week, and is obviously still in the very early stages. A spokesperson for the contractor said that work will be done primarily at night so as to decrease the impact on nearby businesses. This is the first of a few relief projects aimed at reducing gridlock around the state's most congested areas.
Many drivers have already wondered why more construction is necessary, since it seems like road work just ended along these same roads. Mayor William D. Tate explained, "It's better access. We lost access because the main lanes are designed to pass traffic through the city. To give that access back, we need to have flyovers."
This new road construction project is expected to last until 2018.
