DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Run. Hide. Fight.
All three are takeaways from a Dallas Police Department training seminar on what people should do if they're ever caught in an active shooter situation such as the one in San Bernardino.
"My first reaction is to control the weapon," said Officer Gerald Wilson. He taught a special training class at the J. Erick Jonsson Central Library on Friday.
Wilson showed off safety techniques in hopes of keeping people alive.
He said the first rule is to always run, but if you can't hide… and if you're caught he said there are things you can do to stay alive.
"It's going to make me rethink and practice some of the things like scanning, exits safe places… at my job and even when I go to restaurants," said Sharolyn Jenkins. "It just makes me think the entire process of my safety and the safety of other people."
