Oak Cliff Residents Want Wild Horses Caught

DALLAS (CBS11) - Residents in a Dallas neighborhood are angry and frustrated over a group of horses that are roaming wild throughout their yards.

At least three horses were seen on Monday morning on the Oak Cliff neighborhood near the 600 block of West Pentagon Parkway.

Folks who live in the area said they started seeing the animals about a year ago and said they see the horses several times a week.

"I looked out the window and they were in my yard. I thought, oh my God! Is that what I'm looking at?" said Leola Polk.

No matter how loud Polk yells at the horses to leave her yard, the animals keep coming back to eat her grass.

"It's strange and it's unsanitary. I mean if you lived in this area, you wouldn't want to go out every morning and scoop up horse poop," said Polk. "I am so frustrated. Everybody in this neighborhood is so frustrated."

Polk and other residents said they have called the Dallas County Sheriff's Office. But each time someone comes out with a trailer, they leave empty handed.

"I promise you, if we were over in North Dallas or any other area, this problem would be solved," said Debra Glover.

Glover said she has tried to trace where the horses are coming from but never has very much luck. She said she does not know if the horses have been abandoned or if the animals just have inconsiderate owners.

"If you're going to let your horses out in the morning time, then come with a pooper scooper and get in my yard and get it out of my yard," said Glover.

Polk said the problem goes beyond the mess the horses leave behind. She said she is worried the animals will run into someone or that a driver might hit the animals one day.

"I think something bad is going to happen if nothing is done about it," said Glover.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office said it is aware of the situation and has special live stock investigators.
Residents have been instructed to call the sheriff's office if they see the horses again.

If an owner for the animals cannot be located, the sheriff's office said the animals will be put up for auction.
