SHERMAN (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — An ex-principal at a North Texas elementary school has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being arrested at a shopping mall for trying to solicit sex from someone he thought was a 16-year-old boy.

Federal prosecutors say 47-year-old Oscar Figueroa of Carrollton was sentenced Monday in Sherman for child exploitation. He was convicted by a federal jury in April for attempting to coerce and enticement of minors.

A Frisco police online sting last July led to Figueroa. Officers noticed a Craigslist advertisement about a person seeking a young male for sex.

An undercover officer posing as a 16-year-old boy contacted Figueroa, they exchanged texts and agreed to meet at a mall.

At the time the crimes were committed Figueroa was the principal at Viridian Elementary School, which is in the city of Arlington but part of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District.

Figueroa resigned after he was arrested.
