North Texas Brides Left "Cakeless" After Bakery Abruptly Closes

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Just weeks before one of the biggest days of their lives, several brides in North Texas are learning they will be without their wedding cakes.
The owners of Romano's Bakery, in East Dallas, abruptly closed their doors Monday. Employees found out through a text message and there are an estimated 89 brides being left without their wedding cakes.
"It was a really surreal moment. I was like wait, what?" said Christine Wu.
The bride-to-be paid nearly $1,000 for her cake when she ordered it back in October. Her wedding is two weeks away. "If you just look at the price, it's like $4 a slice. You don't pay that for a slice for any other cake," she said.
Employee Kari Kuszewski said she is working to contact as many brides as she can. "I'm half mad I don't have a job, because I'm a single mom, I don't have a job now. And I'm half mad for the brides, they have no idea."
Wu, like the dozens of other brides, will now have to see if another shop can squeeze in her order before her big day. "The only other option if that all falls through is to either make a cake or just not have one," said she said frustrated.
Calls to the listed owner of Romano's Bakery were not returned.
