DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Jumping into a cold pool in January may not sound like your typical winter Sunday, but what if it's for a cause?

Hypnotic Donuts hosted its fourth annual Polar Plunge at the Dallas Fraternal Order of Eagles 3108 Sunday afternoon. Participants paid to jump into and swim across a 44-degree pool to raise money for the Greater Dallas chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Food and drinks followed.

"What you can expect is to have the wind knocked out of you right out of the gate," Hypnotic Donuts' Joshua Griffin said. "And then you struggle to swim the rest of the way."

The organizers said it started as a gentleman's bet. Then they realized they could raise money with it.

In 2014, the proceeds from the event went to the North Texas Food Bank.
