Nice Weekend Ahead

Temperatures stayed above freezing in the metro last night. Lots of sunshine in store for us today, highs should get easily into the mid-60's. The wind is going to pick up out of the south today, it'll stay in the 15mph range this afternoon and get a little gusty.

Sunday looks much the same (lots of sunshine) with a little more wind, strong and steady from the south and gusting in the 25mph range. This wind will be present (though not as gusty) in the morning at the start of the Cowtown Marathon and its 25,000 runners. That 3-mile stretch of Main street (around the 7-9 mile mark) will likely punish the runners a little. A little good news; as the race wears on the wind picks up. As the runners reach Foster Park, the southern most extent of the course, the five mile run to the finish line is almost all with the wind to their backs.

It'll also be a little warmer tomorrow, highs will reach into the upper 60's. This is the same temperature range of last years run.

The next rain chance shows up on Monday and Tuesday. There are no cold shots of air heading to us this week as we close the month of February. We can all agree on how mild (and to our good fortune: very wet) this winter has been. The meteorological start of Spring starts March 1st and frequent 80° weather is just around the corner.

The freezing temperatures of winter are a blessing really, it tempers the insect population and the spread of warm-climate disease as just one example. The cold weather offers a slew of long-term health benefits to us, the trees and soil chemistry. Basically, its the way of things. While a mild winter might make us happy it does extract a price to be paid in the warm season.
