Nice Today, Storms Later
NICE WEATHER TODAY
Highs today will reached into the mid-80's under partly sunny skies. Some clouds and a few passing showers will likely pop up in our far eastern edge as the afternoon wears on. We are keeping a close eye to the western sky. Clouds should come in late today but that system diving in from the panhandle is going to bring storms late tonight and tomorrow morning. Here is the Storm Prediction Center risk assessment for wind damage later today:
ANOTHER RAIN EVENT AHEAD
This one won't be anything like the last monster rain over the weekend. Severe weather is expected west of Wichita Falls this late afternoon and early evening. The thinking is that some of the storms survive the night and roll into our western counties late tonight. What is left of them could reach into the metro area by tomorrow morning, perhaps during the commute. That's the first round. The second round comes in the afternoon when a weak frontal boundary comes though. Depending on where it is positioned in the heat of the day we could get some rain and a few thunderstorms from this as well. Right now the favored areas look to be in our eastern and southeast counties. Highs should reach into the 80's again.
THEN NICE AND EVENTFUL UNTIL AFTER THE WEEKEND
Highs will stay in the 80's, even upper 80's for the balance of the work week and weekend. This coming Saturday/Sunday combo will be a big improvement on the last weekend. It'll be breezy and warm, highs in the upper 80's which is a good ten degrees above normal. Wow.
BRACE YOURSELF FOR THE FIRST BIG SHOT OF FALL
Jeff Jamison wrote about this yesterday and the latest model runs continue to support it. Next Tuesday we could have a day that only gets in the 60's. It will be cloudy, rainy and windy. We haven't had a day that cold since the second day of May. We'll see if the cold air invasion looks so pronounced over the next couple of days. Get your coats out of storage.
