NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A new poll gives Republican Greg Abbott a wider lead over Democrat Wendy Davis in the Texas Governor's race.

A Rasmussen poll shows ‎Abbott with an 11 point lead, 51 to 40 percent over Davis. That's an improvement for Abbott.

A Rasmussen poll in early August gave Abbott an eight point lead, 48 to 40 percent. Earlier this week, a Texas Lyceum Poll also showed Davis trailing Abbott by single digits‎, 49-40 percent.

That poll found Davis has out-performed other Democratic candidates on the ballot this year and other Democrats who previously ran statewide.

Yet the survey concluded it would be very difficult for Davis to catch up to Abbott. Davis has courted women, but the new Rasmussen‎ poll gives Abbott a double digit lead among women and men.

The results come about a month away from election day. Abbott's campaign said earlier this week it still had $30.1 million cash on hand.
