Music Legend David Bowie Dead At 69

LONDON (CBS NEWS/CBSDFW.COM) - Music icon David Bowie, whose illustrious career lasted five decades with hits like "Fame," ''Heroes" and "Let's Dance," died Sunday at the age of 69.
Bowie's website stated that the innovative singer, songwriter and actor "died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."
His official Twitter and Facebook accounts carried the same news, as did the official Twitter account of Bowie's son, Duncan Jones.
The legendary singer's American agent, Steve Martin, confirmed the announcement to CBS News in London.
Bowie turned 69 on Friday, the same day that he released an album called "Blackstar." On that same day, he released a music video for a song called "Lazarus." Fans believe that the track might have foreshadowed Bowie's death, because it contains the lyric "look up here, I'm in Heaven."
