Murray Sets NFL Record With 100-Yard Rushing Performance

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray has set an NFL record by rushing for at least 100 yards in seven consecutive games to open the season.

The 3-yard rush up the middle in the third quarter -- Murray's 19th carry -- gave him 103 yards rushing on the day.

The 26-year-old finished the day with 128 yards rushing on 28 carries with a touchdown.

Murray credited each of his offensive lineman by name -- as well as the tight ends and receivers --  following the game.

"I think we did it as a group," said Murray. "It's hard for me to accept this individually. I definitely wish those guys were here. They're a big part of this."

He currently leads the NFL with 913 yards rushing and 187 carries. Pittsburgh's Le'Veon Bell is the league's second leading rusher with 542 yards.

Jim Brown rushed for at least 100 yards in six consecutive games to start the 1958 season -- a mark that Murray equaled with 115 yards rushing in last week's 30-23 road win over Seattle.

Murray's just humbled to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Hall of Fame running back.

"He's probably one of the greatest running backs to ever play this game. I have a lot of respect for what he's done. Nowhere am I trying to say I'm at his level by any means...I'm not in that category at all."

The former Sooner is quickly approaching his career high in yards (1,121) and carries (217) -- both of which were set last season.

And while Dallas coaches have indicated a desire to cutback on Murray's carries, the back has carried the ball at least 22 times in each game -- something Murray did just twice in 14 games last season.

"He is talented, he is explosive, and he is physical," said quarterback Tony Romo. "Then he goes out there and does it every single day. It's a great thing to see."
