Murder Suspect Turns Himself In After Six Hour Standoff

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Police have arrested a 22-year-old man who allegedly fled after shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend's mother, triggering a nearly six-hour standoff at a southeast Arlington apartment complex.

Alvarado resident Luis Perez, 22, confronted his ex-girlfriend at a residence in the 1600 block of South Oak Drive at about 3 p.m. When the woman's mother stepped out of the home to speak to him, he shot her and fled to an apartment in the 1700 block of Wiscasset Drive, about nine miles away.

The mother was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where she died. She had not been identified Sunday evening.

The ex-girlfriend had a protective order against Perez issued in Johnson County. The two have children together, an Arlington Police Department spokesman said.

Four units were evacuated during the standoff. Perez surrendered to SWAT team officers at about 9:43 p.m., more than six hours after police said he fled the scene of the shooting.
