WAXAHACHIE (CBS 11 NEWS) - Trapped on top of their flooded car and surrounded by rushing water, a Waxahachie family is safe after being rescued from a strong current Monday night.
Maria Estrada was being driven to work along FM 876 when they were caught off guard by an overflowing creek near Bell Branch Road.
Investigators said the car then became trapped in four feet of water and was pinned between two trees.
Maria said she thought she was going to die and prayed God would save her daughter.
Her other daughter, Elizabeth, got the frantic call from her sister.
"It was just a really scary moment just wondering what is going to happen. If they're safe," said Elizabeth Estrada.
The Waxahachie Fire Department along with the Red Oak Fire Department and Forreston Fire Department worked quickly into the night to rescue the family.
"Just be really thankful for your parents and your family and enjoy them while you have them," said Elizabeth Estrada.
Maria Estrada is recovering from a knee injury and chest pain. She said she is forever indebted to the brave men and women who saved her.
"Thank you very much for helping my daughter and me. Thank you so much and god bless you for my life," said Maria Estrada.
Maria Estrada is hoping to be released from the hospital on Wednesday.
