More Rain Could Bring Flooding Back To Granbury

GRANBURY (CBSDFW.COM) - Any rain in Granbury on Wednesday could make an already bad situation much worse. A number of people had to be rescued from their homes on Tuesday evening when their neighborhood flooded as storms passed through North Texas.

At least 20 houses were surrounded by rushing water. Some families said that they walked through chest-deep water to escape from the flooding. Other residents had to be removed from their homes by crews in boats. Rescuers in Hood County continued to work through the night to pull people from houses.

One woman had to leave her husband stranded on their front porch. However, a few minutes later, one of the last boats of the night appeared with her husband safely on board. But the couple, like many other residents, did have to leave their pets alone at home.

Families in these flooded parts of Hood County are anxious to see what is left of their homes on Wednesday, even though rain is expected to continue through the rest of the week, and more flooding is possible. North Texas remains under a Flash Flood Watch until Thursday night. The next day without any chance of rain is Sunday.

The flooding on Tuesday did not just hit neighborhoods. Many roadways in Granbury were also under deep water in the early evening hours. Hood County emergency officials urged drivers to stay off of the roads, as low water crossings, low-lying areas and drainage areas had all started spilling over.

Several drivers had to be rescued from their vehicles when they became stuck in the floodwater. At one point, even a Granbury fire truck found itself stuck in high water.

Most of the flooding had subsided by Wednesday morning, leaving behind a collapsed portion of roadway along Neri Road, south of Granbury. And with more showers in the weather forecast over the next four days, there is some fear that the waters will quickly rise again.
