Massive fire erupts overnight in Sand Branch area of Dallas County, sheriff's office says

A massive fire broke out overnight in Dallas County, prompting what deputies said was a major response involving several crews.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office deputies said it happened in the 200 block of Burns Drive in the Sand Branch area, involving at least 10 acres and two structures.

It wasn't clear which fire department was the lead agency, though the sheriff's office noted multiple departments responded to battle the blaze. Dallas Fire-Rescue later said it was expected that battling the fire would be an extended operation.

Officials told CBS News Texas the fire started around 9:30 p.m. and that crews were expected to be on the scene for a few more hours Sunday morning. Tires, RVs, and construction materials were burned, while nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. Officials noted everyone got back home and no injuries were reported. 

Crews also noted the area doesn't have fire hydrants, so crews had to haul water in. Dallas Fire-Rescue said the water supply has been facilitated mostly by DFR engines and water tankers brought by surrounding counties. 

"During the course of this operation, crews from Dallas County, Forney, Rockwall, Seagoville, Kaufman County, Red Oak, Ovilla, Ellis  County, Bristol and Combine have provided resources to ensure uninterrupted operations," DFR said in a statement.

The fire has been contained to an area containing multiple brush, trash and debris piles, DFR said, and fire suppression efforts are ongoing. Personnel are expected to remain on scene for another 24 hours to ensure the fire stays out.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
