More Parking Planned For Dallas Love Field

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - When the Wright Amendment expired in October, there were just over 100 commercial flights taking off each day from Dallas Love Field. That number is now expected to double by August, leaving the city to play catch-up with the airport's booming growth.

More flights means more travelers, and an increased demand for parking. But the spaces just aren't there.

A city committee on Monday will talk about a plan to address the lack of available parking. Dallas officials plan to build a new nine-level garage that would add more than 5,000 spaces, along with an option to build a future hotel or another development nearby.

The new garage would feature some modern perks such as a way to reserve parking spots online, subscription parking for regular travelers, and tiered parking -- so that spots closer to the airport might cost more money during peak times of the day.

The price tag for this new garage -- including planning, roads and bridges -- is estimated at $181 million. The city plans to sell bonds to pay for part of the cost.

City leaders are meeting on Monday to look at the latest plan. If it continues to move forward, construction could begin in January with the garage being completed in the summer of 2018.
