Monday Morning Meltdown Week 16, Cowboys 42-Colts 7
I have written in my headlines this year that Cowboys win more often than I've had the sad face emoticon and a losing score put in, and that is a means for celebration amongst Cowboys fans.
This one, however, seems to be the most gratifying.
Why?
Because the Cowboys left no doubt.
Look, the Colts are a good team, led by one of the top young QB's in the league. The Cowboys, though, annihilated them.
From the onset, this team lived and breathed the "not in our house" mantra. They finished having given up only 1-yard rushing. That means A) the Colts abandoned the run because they were so far behind B) the Colts couldn't run effectively on their 10 runs so they went to the air, where they were ineffective C) the Colts could not establish a consistent drive and the defense forced them out of any type of rhythm.
The defense deserves credit for forcing 2 picks in three pass plays on Andrew Luck and they also deserve credit for answering the call when the offense says "okay we scored now go get us the ball back somehow."
Dez Bryant is a beast. He probably could have done anything he wanted against the Colts secondary. I know what you're thinking, "Yeah but is he Larry Fitzgerald," nah you're not thinking that, you know better.
It's going to be a huge off-season story, but you pay the man. He is a lethal weapon and you want to stack your team with more weapons than opposing defenses can handle.
That being said, Terrance Williams finds his way back into Tony Romo's eye, and Cole Beasley just keeps on ticking.
Here's something else, Jason Witten who has been dubbed a "glorified blocker" this season has 14 catches for 169 yards and a TD in the last two games is starting to heat up.
I don't know guys, you know how everybody talks about that team that started playing their best at just the right time? The Cowboys are at their best right now.
The Rest of the NFL
WSH-PHI – Eagles fans be like. Dang. I guess thank you Redskins, but I wasn't rooting for you. I have a long standing rule that if NFC East rivals play, you want them to both lose. I'm also not thanking the Redskins for winning, the NFL did what it does.
DET-CHI – Would have liked to see the Bears win that game to give the Boys the leg up in the race for No. 2 in the NFC, but the Jimmy Clausen era just couldn't start out that easily.
Here is a tweet from Kevin Hageland that explains what the Cowboys need
NE-NYJ – The Patriots were just messing with the Jets right? 17-16? C'mon.
ATL-NO – The Falcons torched the Saints and eliminate them from the playoffs as both quarterbacks throw for a combined bazillion yards and a couple of picks. I think that's estimated. Either way, the Falcons might host a playoff game and the Georgia Dome will feel like a playoff atmosphere this weekend when they host Carolina for the NFC South losing record Championship.
BUF-OAK – The Raiders are a weird bunch. How many of the scouts were throwing their clipboards and scouting notes around the room while they were winning. Keep and eye on Darren McFadden's contract situation.
CLE-CAR – Speaking of Carolina, they beat the Browns who were ready for the Manziel era to liftoff. But instead he was lifted up and helped off the field with a hamstring injury.
Gotta stay hydrated bro.
I do like how Cam Newton called out his fans who were booing Manziel as he walked off the field calling that "classless."
KC-PIT – What happened to the great Alex Smith? Kansas City has almost played themselves out of the playoffs. They need a lot of things to happen to get in, but they might be in for an 8-8 season. Or they could route Philip Rivers and his magical season and get a ton of help and make it in. At some point, you have to complete a TD pass to a wide receiver bro.
GB-TB – Not even a pattened Mike Evans 80-yard TD grab off the edge of the sun?
SEA-ARI – I hate to see the Seahawks win in that fashion. I like them as a team, but we didn't get to see what they are really made of. They'll finish things out against the Rams who they'll probably beat and Arizona will finish against the 49ers who they probably won't beat and everybody will tout the former champs as the future champs again. Let's see how it all plays out.
MIN-MIA – Woulda been different with Adrian Peterson right?
BAL-HOU – Woulda been different with Ray Rice right?
