Moment 50: The Cowboys Get Their First Win

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - For the Dallas Cowboys, 13 was a lucky number after all.

After failing to secure a victory in 12 tries during their debut season -- the Cowboys finished 0-11-1 in 1960 -- Dallas found the win column in the season opener of the 1961 season. And it happened in spectacular fashion.

Trailing behind the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 24-17 late in the game, the Cowboys rallied behind their "Little General," Eddie LeBaron. The 5 foot 7 inch quarterback led the Cowboys on a 75-yard drive, and got the game-tying touchdown pass to Dick Bielske.

The Cowboys defense then made a stand, as Jerry Tubbs picked off Steelers quarterback Bobby Layne with just :05 left on the clock.

There was just enough time for LeBaron to find Bill Howton at Pittsburgh's 22-yard line, setting up rookie Allen Green. He hit a game-winning 27-yard field goal as time expired.

In their 13th game in team history, Dallas rallied for the 27-24 victory and their first win in the NFL.
