Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings Announces $50 Million Donation For Trinity River Park

DALLAS (CBSDFW) – Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings revealed Monday that the city was given a $50 million donation from Annette Simmons for the new Trinity River Park. Simmons is the wife of Dallas business man Harold Simmons, who passed away in December of 2013.
The donation is believed to be the largest in city history.
During the announcement, Mayor Rawlings, a trinity trust member and Simmons daughter, Amy, referred to the park as Harold Simmons Park. Rawlings says a vote will take place in the next few months regarding the new proposed name.
Rawlings announced the city's plans
for the park back in May.
At the time, Rawlings said the concept will send a vision for what the city can be, noting that the park "will bring the city together."
The mayor said citizens of Dallas are united around the 285-acre park in Dallas between the levees near the Trinity River, but the plan for the park had to still be thoroughly vetted by the citizens.
Rawlings also said the plan for the park embraces nature and that they are putting the Trinity River back into the Trinity River Park plan.
