MANSFIELD (KRLD) - A woman is recovering after she was shot with a pellet gun while out for a jog in Mansfield.
Mansfield Police say Rhiannon Hanson was jogging on Country Club Drive around 1 p.m. yesterday afternoon when she was shot.
According to Hanson, she was taking a jog in preparation for the Cowtown Marathon in February, when something didn't feel right.
"All of a sudden I had felt this really strong pain... like a smack... I thought a rock had just hit my face... and so it brought me to my knees, the pain did. I grabbed my jaw thinking it was broken. I started moving my jaw up and down. I stood up at that point and someone had stopped and asked me what happened... I didn't have any idea, I just thought I got hit by a rock."
Hanson also described the incident on her Facebook page.
She says she went to her dentist the next morning to make sure her jaw wasn't broken... that's when she realized she was shot with a pellet gun.
"The image you see below is from the first x-ray they took. BAM. I could not believe there was actually a pellet in there. The initial wound looked like, what some said, a BB gun wound. My dentist, Cody Bauer, called an ENT for referral and sent me with a pile of x-ray pics, to the ER. The rest is now being handled by the Mansfield Police Department, to find the person responsible and make sure this never happens to anyone again."
Hanson says she then spent the day in the ER for some treatment, but says she knows this could have been worse.
"It makes me sad but I am so thankful that this could have been much worse. God was with me and I am forever thankful for that."
In an interview with 1080 KRLD, Mansfield police sergeant Mike Midkiff says they have no suspects right now, but they do have a vehicle of some interest. He says a red truck passed Hanson on the street right before the incident.
