Police Open Fire On Man After Traffic Stop
A man remains in a Dallas hospital after Richardson police opened fire during a traffic stop Monday night. An officer pulled the man over for a traffic violation near Central Expressway and Spring Valley Road around 9:30 p.m. Monday. Moments later, the man tried to get away, putting his car in reverse and backing into a squad car. He then jammed it into drive and tried to go forward toward the officers standing in front of him. A Richardson police spokesman says that's when the two officers fired in self-defense, striking the man more than once and leaving him in serious-to-critical condition at Parkland. Investigators don't know why the man suddenly tried to speed off.
