WEATHERFORD (1080 KRLD/CBSDFW) - He didn't learn after the first offense, or the second, or the third, or the fourth. And now one Weatherford man is paying the price.

62-year-old Ivy Eberhart of Weatherford pleaded guilty to DWI. It was his 10th DWI conviction; and for that, Parker County District Judge Craig Towson sentenced him to life in prison.

Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain says as he was awaiting his court date, Eberhart was put on an electronic device that monitors alcohol consumption. But that did no good.

"The case took a long time to reach a conclusion because, while we were waiting for it to go to trial, Mr. Eberhardt cut off his electronic monitor, skipped bond, and fled to Colorado where he was arrested for yet another DWI offense," said Assistant District Attorney Jeff Swain. "We had to wait until he was done with his sentence up there before we could bring him down here to conclude our case."

Eberhart spent 30 days in jail there before returning to Texas to face the music.

Eberhart will be eligible for parole in 15 years.
