AUSTIN (AP) — Austin police have released the name of a 29-year-old man who was fatally shot by an officer last week.

Authorities say Tyler Hunkin was shot after charging at Officer Matthew Paredes with knives in his hands.

This case remains under investigation and will be reviewed by Austin police and the Travis County District Attorney's Office and will be presented to a grand jury.

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo has said the Friday night incident appears to be "suicide by cop."

Authorities say Hunkin was threatening people with knives in a parking lot. Paredes ordered Hunkin to drop the knives, but police say Hunkin ran toward the officer and was shot.

Paredes has worked with the Austin Police Department for 4 1/2 years.
