Man Gets 35 Years Jail For Thefts Near Athens
ATHENS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man was sentenced to 35 years in jail last week for thefts around the Athens area. Dale Forbus Reynolds admitted to committing multiple thefts near Lake Athens and Baxter in November and December of last year. The Henderson County Sheriff's Office started investigating the cases after victims reported items stolen from their properties.
Reynolds was first arrested for oustanding warrants. The 38-year-old man confessed to the thefts when questioned by law enforcement agents.
Authorities were able to recover and return around $10,000 worth of stolen property including tools, trailers, an ATV and firearms. "Although much of the property stolen was recovered and returned to the victims," said Henderson County District Attorney R. Scott McKee, "their sense of security cannot be returned."
Reynolds was also found guilty of possessing a controlled substance during a September traffic stop. An officer pulled him over and discovered that he had an active warrant for illegal dumping. During a search, the officer found methamphetamine in the suspect's pants pocket. In addition to the theft cases and drug case, Reynolds was found guilty of evading arrest in October.
"I'm glad he is behind bars and out of our neighborhoods," McKee said.
