Man Dead After Hit-&-Run Crash In Richardson

RICHARDSON (CBSDFW.COM) - One person is dead after a hit-and-run crash in Richardson. The incident happened just after 3:00 a.m. early Tuesday morning along the President George Bush Turnpike, near the Custer Road exit.

According to State Trooper Dub Gillum, a speeding blue Mercedes slammed into a gray Ford vehicle from behind while the cars were traveling along the highway. This crash caused the Ford to spin, leaving it resting sideways in the eastbound lanes of traffic. As the driver of the Mercedes started to flee, the Ford was then struck again by a black Honda.

The driver of the Ford was identified as 56-year-old Billy Barnes of Hughes Springs. He was transported by ambulance to Medical Center of Plano, where he died from his injuries. The unidentified driver of the Honda was not hurt. His parents arrived on the scene to take him home.

The man in the Mercedes was identified as 22-year-old Matthew Ryan Marco Arbanas. After running from the crash scene, he was found collapsed about a mile away, along Renner Road. Arbanas was also transported to Medical Center of Plano in critical condition. The blue Mercedes had been reported stolen earlier Tuesday morning by the suspect's own father. Authorities have not said what charges Arbanas will face upon release from the hospital.
