Man Allegedly Pointed Laser At Police Helicopter

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Dallas arrested a man who confessed to pointing a laser at a police helicopter. The incident happened just after 4:00 a.m. Monday morning as officials were searching in the 8000 block of Umphress Road for another suspect in an unrelated crime. The pilot of the police helicopter spotted a bright beam of light, which then hit the helicopter's windscreen and obscured the pilot's vision.

The laser struck the helicopter windscreen several times before officers in the air were able to direct officers on the ground to the origin of the beam, the backyard of a home in the neighborhood being searched.

Police arrived at the home and found 22-year-old Kenneth Santodomingo dressed only in short blue underwear. The suspect first denied knowledge of the crime, but later admitted to having the laser and shining it at the helicopter. "I wanted to see how far it would go," he allegedly told officers at the scene. The laser was recovered from the front pocket of a suitcase.

Santodomingo was arrested and taken to the Lew Sterrett Justice Center.
