DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Law enforcement officials in Dallas on Thursday made an arrest in a sexual assault case that is approaching two years old. Brandon Alexander Tarrant was taken into custody for an unrelated offense, and then admitted to investigators that he had committed the earlier assault.
It was back in October 2014 that a 68-year-old woman told police that she was attacked in her home, located along Ashbrook Road in Dallas. The victim said that she was sitting in her living room between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. when a man entered her residence and approached her from behind.
Authorities explained that the suspect placed a towel over the victim's eyes and then sexually assaulted her inside of the home. The man then fled from the scene, telling the woman not to call police. The victim did not listen to that command, and quickly told detectives what had happened.
The woman explained that she feared for her safety throughout the incident. She was taken to Methodist Central Hospital for a sexual assault exam and DNA evidence was collected.
Tarrant was taken into custody by police officers on Thursday and charged with the aggravated assault of an elderly person, a first-degree felony. His bail has been set at $100,000. The 26-year-old man has no prior felony convictions, officials said.
