DALLAS - One of the biggest events ushering in the holiday season in Dallas-Fort Worth is Klyde Warren Park's annual tree-lighting celebration.

More than 37,000 sparkling lights and almost 4,000 ornaments are now shining brightly on the 52' Christmas tree in the heart of Klyde Warren Park.

"The park turned 10 this year and we've had this annual tree lighting for almost as long," said Kit Sawers, the president and CEO of Klyde Warren Park.

The park estimates 30,000 people came out to the annual tree lighting celebration hosted by CBS News Texas anchors Nicole Baker and Doug Dunbar.

For some the tree lighting is an annual family tradition.

"We actually come here every year so this is our third time coming," said Andreaunna Scott.

For others, it's the start of a new one.

"This is gonna be his first holiday here so we're trying to get him to socialize, get some food in his stomach and be able to enjoy all the festivities," said Mobi Masudi, holding his young son.

Families packed into the park, taking advantage of the perfect weather for a day of free holiday activities; like photos with Santa, face painting and live music and dance performances.

"With this beautiful weather in Dallas you really can't complain," said Masudi.

It's a holiday tradition the park hopes will continue for years to come.

"We really want families to enjoy this every year," said Sawers.

If you missed the tree lighting Saturday night there's still plenty of time to see it in all its glory. It will be shining all season long until January 7.
