Litter Could Damage Waterways, Equipment In Dallas

DALLAS(CBSDFW.COM) -  The heavy rains that have fallen throughout North Texas have water management officials in Dallas worried about debris and trash pile ups clogging drainage ditches in waterways.

One of the biggest concerns is along the Skyline Trinity Trail in West Dallas. The water there has overflowed and spilled onto the trails flooding them out. The trash that normally liters that area has also spilled.

Dhurv Pandya, the Assistant Director of Flood Control for Trinity Watershed Management said, "We are removing trash and debris as needed so there is continuous work, routine maintenance and flood related work that is going on."

He says failure to keep the ditches clear of debris could cause their pumps to jam.

Pandya added, "If we don't pay attention that can create back flow."

Dallas residents who notice debris piling up in their waterways are urged to report it by calling 3-1-1.
