LGBT Community Getting Armed

FORT WORTH (CBS11) - Setting their sights on shooting, more people within the LGBT community are arming themselves in a post-Orlando massacre world.
Gun shops like Shoot Smart in Fort Worth say instructors have noticed an uptick in interest for gun safety classes and firearms sales.
"Most people would have thought I was anti-gun," said Lynn, an LGBT gun owner who does not want her real name used in the story.
Lynn was just licensed to conceal carry a few days ago.
"You have that attitude of far-right wing, ultra conservative, not very accepting. So members of my community are going to shy away from it," said Lynn.
But after 49 lives were taken at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Lynn and other LGBT member feel packing has become pertinent.
"There certainly are defensive purposes," said Lynn
Instructors at Shoot Smart said it does not matter if folks are interested in classes, buying a gun or just renting to shoot... everyone in the LGBT community is welcome.
"People may feel for whatever reason, they're not welcome or a little awkward," said Cassie Shockey, a senior LTC instructor at Shoot Smart.
Shockey said her shop is one of the handful of gun shops and gun ranges that is specifically reaching out to the LGBT community.
"Kind of across the board, we're seeing an increase there," said Shockey.
It is good for business, but Shockey feels it is even better for safety having more responsible gun owners like Lynn in Texas.
"I'm 61 years old and I've never had to have it. I don't think I need it, but I do like having it."
Pro-Gun LGBT group Pink Pistols has a map and list of LGBT-friendly gun shops across the country.
