Lawsuit Filed After Traffic Stop Leads To Death Of Sherman Woman
SHERMAN, Texas (1080 KRLD) - A Sherman woman says a traffic stop last summer inexplicably led to the death of her sister. Now she has filed suit in federal court.
The lawsuit says that in August 2013 a Sherman, Texas police officer pulled over Lesa Surratt for a traffic violation, but the officer suspected she had swallowed cocaine.
According to the complaint, the officer beat, choked and tased Surratt - attempting to get her to spit out the suspected contraband.
But instead Surratt lost consciousness and began convulsing while five officers stood by - according to the lawsuit.

Attorney Don Bailey says by the time an ambulance was called, some 20-minutes later, Surratt was brain-dead.
The Sherman City Attorney has not been available for comment.
