KT's Cowboys Camp Chronicles 2015: Volume 1

As the summer begins to lose its title as "current season", nothing is more remindful of that than football training camp. We're about a month away from the season starting, but it's the early portion of Dallas Cowboys training camp, and I'm happy to be covering it for my 3rd time as a part of the 105.3 The Fan crew.

Sunday morning, after a long day of drinking and fellowshipping with listeners, the G-Bag Nation and Ben and Skin show flew out to California, and the trip definitely did not start out as a bore.

After we landed safely at LAX, we drove down the Pacific Coast Highway (my first trip down that famous roadway), and the views were spectacular. It's hard to explain through the font I'm typing in, but it was really cool. All of those California cliches were true. There were a lot of things that stood out, but the bikini and general good looking people percentage is definitely higher on the PCH. I ran the music on the drive, and tried to select some stuff that'd be cool while driving down that spectacular highway.

Maybe something like this....

OR

8. Redbone - Come And Get Your Love by Joel Gustafsson on YouTube

We arrived at our Miller Lite Beach House, but didn't have a ton of time to hang out as we claimed our spots and then headed straight to Cowboys practice. With it being so early in training camp, I was kind of expecting an uneventful practice, but that was not the case at all.

Jeff Cavanaugh and I stood across the field, watching the Dez Bryant and Tyler Patmon incident take place. It definitely provided some entertainment, but I couldn't help but feel that it was really unnecessary. I don't think it's some huge story or anything, but I'd just prefer Dez to not go after guys like Tyler Patmon.

I asked Barry Church what he thought about the skirmish after practice, and he said it seems like a waste of energy and he was too tired to get involved. The thing about Dez, though, is that he never runs out of energy. Punches were thrown, and Patmon hit him first, but for me, I'd just rather see Dez not waste his time with shenanigans like that.

I'm firmly a Dez guy, but it's hard to ignore the "it's always something" factor. We've talked in-depth about him growing up and maturing, and even though the fight with Patmon is a hit-and-run story, I'd prefer the guy we talk about growing up and maturing not in a fight with one of the spare corners fighting for a roster spot.

That being said, props to Dez and Tyler Patmon for going to shake hands after practice, in what appeared to be a very contrived for reality television event. They both went to Oklahoma State and were teammates last year, so maybe it was really genuine, but if you saw the video on the field, then you know the beef was real. After practice Dez said that he loves the fight Patmon has and that's a guy you can go to war with. I'll say this about Patmon, he's not backing down. He might be backing up to avoid a fist, but he's not backing down.

Mike Bacsik and I were the only ones to go full shirt-off and get in the Coleman "Bright Ideas" Hot Tub. That's going to be a nightly muscle relaxer. Also, thanks to Miller Lite for supplying us with a nice cold beverage, fully in-stock for the duration of our camp coverage.

I slept on the couch last night, as did Gavin Dawson. The couch is L-shaped so no spooning or anything happened. I woke up this morning doing some yoga with Mike Bacsik and Cavanaugh. Now I'm sitting out on the porch, finding a few stories for the day. I hope you'll continue to check us out in our ten day camp coverage excursion. Follow The Fan twitter account @1053thefan, and also myself @ktfuntweets, and the Ben and Skin podcast show page @benandskin. We'll have all the bits and segments posted throughout the week!

Today we have Stephen Jones at 4pm, and Jon Daniels at 430. The players have the day off, so we don't have player availability, but we did record an interview with Jeremy Mincey, so that will air today as well. Thanks so much for reading along, and more importantly listening to the station. We love you.
