National Day of Prayer today (5/5). The 65th annual National Day of Prayer is expected to be larger than ever, with an estimated 47,000 local events taking place across the United States.

Eye of the Collector at the Perot Museum is happening now through September 5. In Eye of the Collector, the quirky, crafty, historical and fashionable objects of nine very different people come together to show that the recollections they have of their prized possessions are at least as valuable as the collections themselves.

Def Leppard tribute Hysteria is playing Rock 101 Grill in Little Elm Friday May 6.

The Cottonwood Arts Festival in Richardson is this weekend (5/7-8). If you were banging your head to Lilian Axe back in the day, check out former lead singer Ron Taylor & guitarist Darrin DeLatte Saturday morning!

The Fabulous Thunderbirds are playing Gas Monkey Bar and Grill Saturday night (5/7).

There is a Free Fishing Event at Chisholm Park in Hurst Saturday May 7 sponsored by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), the City of Hurst and the Toyota Texas Fest. The 9-to-noon event will feature fishing for catfish, 50 of which will bear colored tags. Kids catching tagged fish can claim prizes such as fishing poles, tickets to the Toyota Texas Fest, and much more. There will also be a fish art activity for kids and displays of the biggest largemouth bass and catfish ever caught in Texas.

The Fort Worth Taco Fest is Saturday May 7 at Panther Island Pavilion.

Check out the Kentucky Derby Bash at The Rustic Saturday May 7. They will have four Best Dressed contests...Best Dressed Couple…Best Dressed Male…Best Dressed Female…and Best Hat. They'll even have Mint Juleps.

Steve Wariner is playing Billy Bob's Saturday night (May 7). During his career he has charted over 30 top-10 singles, including 14 #1 hits--songs like "Some Fools Never Learn," "Small Town Girl," "The Weekend," and "I Should Be With You." In 1998 he won the Country Music Association's Single and Song of the Year awards for his #1 hit, "Holes in the Floor of Heaven," which was also the Academy of Country Music's Song of the Year in 1999

It is Mother's Day Weekend (5/7-8) at the Dallas Arboretum. There will be Family Portraits for purchase with Ivey Photography at Wishing Well - noon to 4 p.m. Live music: Martin Rutchik Concert Stage - 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. ◦Harpist Merry Miller: Sunday, May 8 - noon at Entry .Also at the Arboretum in the month of May… the Rose Mary Haggar Rose Garden. More than 250 large flowering hybrid tea rose bushes are within this garden, which is accented by rose covered arches and seat walls to enjoy their fragrance and beauty.

This weekend, Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Scarborough Renaissance Festival… it's all about Mama mixed in with some Renaissance Romance.  Both Saturday and Sunday, you can treat the special lady to Scarborough's Mother's Day Brunch.  This  Brunch Buffet will include baked egg Frittata, roasted potatoes with rosemary, mixed fruit and carved ham along with Mimosas (for those over 21), coffee & tea.  There will also be lively Renaissance entertainment and King Henry VIII and members of the Royal Court will make a special visit to honor all the mothers.  Also this weekend, Scarborough Renaissance Festival® celebrates modern day romances with Renaissance flair at the Vow Renewal Ceremony.  Scarborough invites couples to the Wedding Garden at 12 noon each day to renew their vows and commitments to each other in this lovely, romantic ceremony. The May 7th and 8th daily Wine Tastings will feature wines of Italy and the daily Beer Tastings will showcase the beers of Texas.  The tastings sell out fast, so it is recommend that you purchase tasting tickets in advance.
