When Rock & Roll Artists Were Film Stars

(CBSDFW.COM) - Back in the 50's and 60's, if you were a popular recording artist with the "young people" as we were called back then (LOL), you probably had a contract with a film studio to appear in motion pictures. Below are three artists from that era:

ELVIS PRESLEY: The King of Rock N' Roll starred in 31 movies from 1956 to 1969, such as Jailhouse Rock, Love Me Tender, and Girls! Girls! Girls!, to name a few. I was lucky when I was programming KXTX in the 1980's when we had a number of Elvis movies under license and come January and August of each year (the months he was born and died), we would run Elvis movie marathons. We achieved huge ratings!!

THE BEATLES: The Fab Four from Liverpool, England who changed rock n' roll forever starred in five movies: A Hard Day's Night, Help!, Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine, and Let it Be. The first two were comic farce/spoof movies per se. The last three were not quite as successful.

DAVE CLARK FIVE: This British rock and roll band that was a rival to the Beatles only made one movie. Released in Europe as Catch Us If You Can (based on the hit song by the same name credited to them) in 1965, it was released in the U.S. as Having A Wild Weekend.
