Ken Foote's Annual Holiday Message

As we are in full swing for the holiday season, I thought I would take a moment to reflect on the past year and a look ahead at 2015.

From a professional viewpoint, I celebrated 10 years with CBS in March. My assistant became a new mom. We had successful fall schedule launches, especially on TXA21 where we saw big increases in ratings especially from 7pm-1am. We have some new programming coming next fall. All in all, it was a pretty good year. And I am blessed to work with some of the best TV professionals in the nation.

From a personal viewpoint, it was mixed. On the plus side, our older son got engaged and will be married next spring. He also was promoted in the Army to 1st LT. Younger son is on target to graduate from college next year after changing his major (kids! LOL). On the minus side, members of my immediate family dealt with some severe health issues but are recovering well. I have a niece who divorced after 12 years of marriage with two kids, yet have a nephew who married in May. We had two deaths in the immediate family this year, one just this past weekend. Death of a loved one is never easy but during the holidays it's rougher. And we have another immediate family member that is not well either. Death does not take a holiday. And I saw close friends lose their jobs.

But with that said, it made me realize once again that the holiday season really isn't about going out on Black Friday fighting crowds to get that new TV set, having 15 presents under the tree for one kid, or spending money that you may not have. It's about love. It's about doing for others in need. It's about patience and kindness toward others. It's about being thankful for the blessings bestowed on us. And it's about the realization that a much higher and powerful being is really in control and is calling the shots, not us. So many times this year I have seen things happen (or not happen) not necessarily due to any wisdom I had but from someone else running The Show of Life. The older I get, the more I realize the importance of letting old distractions and petty disagreements go. And forgive those who hurt you so you can move on and enjoy life while we can.

From our family to yours, Happy Holidays and best wishes for the new year. See you next time.
