PLANO (CBS11) - Because it's so hot, counselors at Camp Cimarron in Plano, are having kids play with arts and crafts, under the cover of enormous shade trees and a pavilion at Bob Woodruff Park.
Chauncey Deller, Recreation Supervisor for Outdoor Recreation for the City of Plano says they always make sure the kids are having fun and staying safe.
"That's probably the number one concern of parents: You're an outdoor camp all day long, what are you doing. We keep that in mind and we try to make sure to keep the kids as cool as possible."
Christie Shill, a recreation coordinator for the camp says, "Kids have a lot of energy, so you have to balance activities that they don't get too rowdy."
On days like this, camps move indoors in the afternoon. And with kids, you have to mix-up. So today, they're bowling at Allen Bowl.
Shill says, "They get really excited because it's something new, and again, it's indoors."
But for those outdoors -- keeping cool is a challenge.
At the Waterfalls Car Wash & Autocare in Allen, they give employees frequent water breaks -- and move them around.
Manager Sam Khalil says, "Let's say we'll take a guy out of the front area and put him to the vacuum station for two hours and one of the guys in the vacuum area will come to the drying area. Everyone works as a team."
It's the same at Camp Cimarron, where they know what kids like to do inside at the Oak Point Recreation Center in Plano when it's too hot to be outside.
Shill says,"They really like going to the gym because we can do tag teams and things we can do in the gym that we can't do here because of the grass."
Campers here will get to swim in the pool during the afternoon for the rest of the week.
