Eye On The Ball & Hand On The Bat, Josh!
Yesterday, the Texas Rangers easily defeated the Baltimore Orioles 14-3. However, the one detail of the game that is being lost in the coverage of Brandon Snyder's career-high 6 RBIs and the Rangers ability to get back into the win column, is what Josh Hamilton did with his bat . . . literally.
While chasing an outside pitch, Josh Hamilton hurled his bat into the stands of Camden Yards. Luckily, Camden Yards is not the place it was a few years ago and the low attendance allowed the bat to safely drop in a area with few fans. However, this has become an all too familiar yet dangerous scene for the reigning American League MVP. Over just the last year, Hamilton's flinging of Louisville's finest has nearly slammed into the side of a pregnant woman in Boston, had minor league fans ducking in Round Rock and nearly decapitated a Tigers fan in Detroit at the ALCS.
It's occurrences like these and the lack of Hamilton's discipline that makes me address the elephant in the room . . . Will Josh Hamilton kill someone again?
During the off-season renovations at Rangers Ballpark, the Texas Rangers took the initiative to avoid another tragic event by raising various rails around upper-level seating. Unfortunately, the same initiative hasn't been taken by Hamilton. Not sooner or later, but now and NOW . . . Josh Hamilton clearly needs to make it a priority to hold his bat with as strong of a grip as he holds his faith. If not, Hamilton will surely injury someone or worse . . . and I'm sure the Rangers have no plans to build another statue outside the ballpark.
