FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A North Texas school district will take a look at allowing some teachers and staff to carry guns on campus.

Superintendent Ricky Stephens of the Keene ISD, which is south of Fort Worth, says in an effort to boost security, they will consider picking several teachers and staff members on each campus, to go through training to allow them to carry a gun on the job.

"They will have to go to a doctor, to get physically cleared. And also to get psychologically cleared " he says. "And then the law requires that the school board individually approve each carrier."

He says so far, most parents that he has spoken to, back the measure.

"Nobody wants to carry on campus. We wish we were in a world where that's not even an option. Anybody that wants to, is a person that we don't want carrying."

Keene is the second Texas school district to consider allowing teachers to carry guns. Cleburne considered the idea two years ago but never took any action.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
