Josh Hamilton Hospitalized With Early Pneumonia Symptoms

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Texas Rangers outfielder and 2010 MLB American League Most Valuable Player Josh Hamilton has been hospitalized with early pneumonia-like symptoms, according to team officials.

A Rangers spokesman confirmed that Hamilton was diagnosed on Monday and doctors are administering antibiotics to Hamilton at an area hospital on Tuesday, in hopes that he will he will be able to return to his off-season training as quickly as possible.

According to a team statement, Hamilton is expected to be released from the hospital within the next 24 hours, and should be able to resume baseball activities within the next few days.

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report for spring training on February 16 and will have their first workout the following day. Infielders and outfielders, like Hamilton, report to camp on February 19, for their first full-squad workout on February 20.

The first spring training game is a week later on February 27, when the Rangers will meet the Kansas City Royals at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Arizona.
