Jones Concerned About Hiring Coach Who Has Won Super Bowl
DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Jerry Jones is on the record as saying he is concerned about hiring a Head Coach who has already won a Super Bowl. "That's worth noting," he said. "I'm a big believer in having never done something and then getting the opportunity to do it."
I am more than a little stunned that a smart, successful man like Jerry Jones would actually let such a meaningless fact cloud his vision regarding who should lead the Cowboys. Just because no coach has ever won a Super Bowl and then won it again with another team, it doesn't mean it can't or won't happen. Isn't that like saying you don't hire a new CEO because he's already been wildly successful at his job? The great Sparky Anderson was hired by the Detroit Tigers in 1979 after he had already won multiple World Series Titles with the Cincinnati Reds, at the time no other Manager had ever won the World Series in the American League and the National League. In 1984 Sparky Anderson became the first Manager to win a World Series in both leagues. How misguided would it have been for the Tigers NOT to hire Sparky simply because no one had ever done it?
Additionally, Jerry's comments were "I'm a big believer in having never done something and then getting the opportunity to do it" that is perfect, why not consider a Head Coach who has never won a Super Bowl with two different teams?
Jerry needs to get this crazy notion out of his head and hire the best coach he can find, limiting his choices to people who have never won a Super Bowl is a disservice to Cowboy fans!
