It's National Food Day
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - What's in your pantry?
Today is National Food Day, when Americans are being asked to re-think some of our collective eating habits.
Now, before we go any further, we should tell you that National Food Day is a creation of the Center for Science in the Public Interest -- better known to some people as the "Food Police." They're the folks who have made a name for themselves by criticizing everything from movie theater popcorn to cereal.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, but we want you to know where this is coming from.
Anyway, National Food Day has a half-dozen goals for America. Some of them are ones that anybody can get behind, like "expand access to food and alleviate hunger." Who opposes that?
Here's their full list of goals for Food Day. We want to know what you think. Are these reasonable goals? Ridiculous? Don't care? Let us know in the comments.
- Reduce diet-related disease by promoting safe, healthy foods
- Support sustainable farms & limit subsidies to big agribusiness
- Expand access to food and alleviate hunger
- Protect the environment & animals by reforming factory farms
- Promote health by curbing junk-food marketing to kids
- Support fair conditions for food and farm workers
