IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - An Irving Police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash early Friday morning, August 12.

According to a preliminary investigation Officer Mark Dahl, 54, lost control and was thrown from his personal motorcycle while heading to work shortly before 6:00 a.m.

This happened in the 7800 block of Valley View Lane at Interstate Highway 635 in Irving.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Irving Police say Officer Dahl was a 19-year veteran of the Irving Police Department.  Before that he was a Dallas County Sheriff's Deputy and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
