Increasing Rain Chances Late This Week

WARM START TO FEBRUARY

Another beautiful afternoon in North Texas,  and it's easy to be fooled to think it's April 1st rather than February 1st with temperatures in the 70s.  The average high this time of year is in the upper 50s.  By the end of February the average high is in the mid 60s…so we're above normal even if we were about to turn the page to March.

The highest temperature record in DFW in February is 96° set back in 1904.  The all-time record low temperature occurred during the month of February, 1899.  On February 12 of that year, we saw the mercury bottom out at -8°, that's minus 8 degrees!

GOOD CHANCE OF STORMS FRIDAY

An upper level disturbance over the Rockies will quickly strengthen into a low pressure area over the Four Corners by tomorrow morning.  This system will then slowly push to the east into the central through the day Friday.  It will help drag a cold front through North Texas by Friday evening.  Ahead of the front, we will see plenty of moisture return to North Texas to interact with the cooler air moving in from the north .  We'll likely see two rounds of thunderstorms Friday…one in the morning and one in the afternoon/evening.

There is a chance for some strong thunderstorms Friday, but the heart of this system will be in the Central Plains.  This leads us to believe that while we do think we'll have a high coverage of rain…the strongest storms should stay north of the Red River.  There will be a few storms, however, capable of producing strong winds and larger hail by Friday afternoon.

Tonight…Partly cloudy & cool.  Low 50° Wind: NE 5-10 mph

Thursday...Mostly cloudy, more humid and still warmer than normal.  High 68° Wind: ESE 5-15 mph.  30% chance of storms, especially later in the day…widely spaced across North Texas.

Friday…Mostly cloudy with a 70% chance of showers & thunderstorms.  Some could be strong, especially by late afternoon.  High 70°

Weekend…Partly cloudy & cooler.  A bit breezy as well.  Highs 54-56°  Lows 35-38°
