FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A former Fort Worth high school baseball star is dead after a crash off Chisholm Trail.
Drew Medford, 18, was killed when officials say the Volkswagen Pasat he was driving, for an unknown reason, failed to make a turn and slammed into a divider at around 2:45 Thursday morning.
The star pitcher had just graduated from Paschal High School and was set to play at Texas Christian University this coming year.
Matt Miracle is the boys athletic director at Pascal High and says Medford was a special kid.
"Drew had a very strong voice and presence in the dugout. There was a lot of respect on that team fro Drew. Even some of his peers and other seniors still looked up to him," says Miracle.
Miracle says Medford was more than just a baseball player.
"He and I talked about things outside of baseball, like leadership and what it means to lead. The things you do and how you act and react to things."
Medford was a district 4-6A MVP last year earning him a scholarship to TCU.
The cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
