MIDLOTHIAN (CBSDFW.COM) - The husband of a fitness instructor who was murdered in Midlothian is making a public plea for help.
Missy Bever's body was found inside Creekside Church of Christ on Highway 287 on Sunday. She was at the church to teach a fitness class. According to police, the woman's killer actually broke into the church before Bevers arrived. In surveillance video, the suspect is seen wandering the halls of the church dressed head-to-toe in police SWAT gear. The suspect could be a man or a woman, officials said. The heavy tactical gear makes it hard to identify the individual. The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Authorities stated that Bevers may have interrupted a burglary. Investigators found broken glass on the floor. Bevers was assaulted by the suspect and left unresponsive.
Her husband Brandon Bevers said right now police have few clues to work with, and are trying to pinpoint why the suspect was even at the church. Police released additional video Tuesday evening of the suspect inside the church.
"We don't even know how he got there. I am just hoping that someone either saw something or they could recognize the mannerisms of the person on the video," said police.
Missy's mother-in-law, Vicky Bevers, said they're heartbroken. "It's a terrible terrible loss of a wonderful dear sweet woman." Relatives remembered the 45-year-old victim as an amazing woman, wife and mother to three kids. Bevers was an avid fitness instructor, and her brother-in-law said that there was simply no reason for this to happen. Rattled members of the community came by the church on Tuesday with mementos for Bevers and her family.
Brandon Bevers said their church has been a comfort to the whole family. "The church and the members of the church are some of the best friends that we've ever had and some of the dearest friends we have ever had in our lives."
He does not believe his wife was targeted.
A $10,000 reward from Oak Farms Dairy is being offered in the case.
