Hottest Day Of The Year So Far

Here's the Thunderstorm Watch box (in yellow) that is in effect until 2am Sunday morning:

The headline today was all about the heat. We hit 107° today, the hottest day we've had at DFW Airport since Sept. 13th of last year. We broke the record high by a full two degrees (105° set back in 1939).

It'll be another hot day tomorrow with the forecast high of 102° and a heat index at 105° or higher. Another Heat Advisory is issued for the metroplex and counties north and east, it is in effect until 8pm Sunday.

Storms developed along a trough that slowly drifted across the Red River and into north Texas. It triggered some severe weather for the second day in a row. The metroplex was under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a short while (from 6:15p to just before 8pm) but the storms died down quickly.

Severe weather continues across east Texas late into the night.  Because of the trough a few isolated showers or weak storms could still form in the overnight and morning hours tomorrow around north Texas.

Tomorrow afternoon will likely NOT have a boundary line of some kind draped over North Texas during the heat of the day. This will reduce our storm chances for the metroplex down to around 10%. A 30% chance of storm exists for our southern counties from Bosque over Henderson and south. The storms that do form could be severe with the threat of damaging winds.

The ridge of high pressure over the central plains is going to break down some and allow us to slip just below triple digit highs starting Tuesday. Dry weather with highs in the upper 90's (along with a brisk south wind) will be the norm next week.

Perhaps next weekend we can get through both days without storms. This is the third weekend in a row severe or near-severe storms and outflow boundaries have moved over the metroplex and our area lakes.

Yesterday we did get a decent rain at DFW by the way. .71" of an inch.  We are still in a hole when it comes to July rainfall. As mentioned above, it looks very dry for the next week, even for the next couple of weeks:
