Hotter Weekend Ahead

After Tuesday's high of a shocking 107° (the hottest temperature ever recorded this late in the year) yesterday we only hit 78°, the coolest day we've enjoyed since summer started. Above normal temperatures arrives just in time for the weekend along with higher humidity.

TODAY

Morning clouds made for a dreary looking start to our day. They'll start to break away later this morning. We had some patchy drizzle much earlier; we are expecting some thunderstorm activity this afternoon in our western third along a Gainesville to Granbury line. Always to good to be talking about rain (even if small chances and small amounts) in the current drought. Highs today should top out in the mid-to-upper 80's with a brisk southeast wind. A warm front is pushing up from the south today; it'll cross into our northeast corner by tomorrow morning. This front is bringing in warmer more humid air and keeping storm chances around for the weekend.

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Storm chance are small and confined to our western third. Expect the brisk southeast this afternoon (10-20mph) to settle down by half-time. Partly cloudy skies and dry at just about all the game sites. That said the storms coming in from the west could easily produce one or two thunderstorms. Stephenville over to Decatur will have to keep an eye to the western sky as we close the day and get into evening. Temperatures should fall back into the low 80's by 7pm, drop into the upper 70's by 10pm.

WEEKEND FORECAST

Saturday- Rain chances across the weekend are not that great but certainly in place. Daytime heating tomorrow should inspire some storms around the metroplex and west/northwest in the afternoon. Coverage we'll only be around 20% in the city, around 30% from Decatur over to Weatherford. Temperatures are going to get into the low 90's and dew points rise into the low 60's. This is a temperatures/humidity regime much higher than our Thursday/Friday cool down. We should have a brisk wind from the south, up to 20mph in fact. Fire danger is always a concern in this drought when winds stay up like this; we'll have to closely monitor the situation through the afternoon hours.

For Saturday a frontal boundary stays off to our west/northwest. The warm, humid air in place should produce some afternoon storms.

Sunday- A few sprinkles will be around Sunday morning, then skies should break. Partly sunny most of the day. As we close the weekend an approaching cold front is expected to fire up some storms. The better chance of some decent rain will be during the evening hours and into Monday morning. Some strong if not severe storms are not out of the question last Sunday and early Monday.

On Sunday a cold front starts to move though the southern plains, it gets here early Monday. Ahead of it strong storms shoud form, the highest storms chances are Sunday night.

NEXT WEEK

No hot weather ahead like we had this week but no big cool downs either. We should keep in the upper 80's each day. Monday we'll have some rain around, then again on Thursday as yet another cold front comes in.
